Birmingham hosts the AMA Supercross Championship at Protective Stadium, a multipurpose stadium located in downtown Birmingham, Alabama. The venue is transformed into a racing track in just a few days using over 26 million pounds of dirt that are brought in by hundreds of truckloads. The track features multiple jumps, turns, and rhythm sections using locally sourced red clay that provides excellent traction for the riders. Birmingham returned to the Supercross schedule in 2024 for the first time in 40 years and serves as one of the series' newer racing venues.
