Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach
The Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach is the second-oldest continuously running event in American open-wheel racing behind only the Indianapolis 500 and is considered one of the most prestigious events on the circuit. The Grand Prix is the longest running major street circuit race held in North America, having started in 1975 as a Formula 5000 race before becoming a Formula One event in 1976. The current 11-turn, 1.968-mile layout has been used since 2000 and typically requires three pit stops with tire strategy playing a significant role. The race is known for its tight hairpin turn followed by a long Shoreline Drive straightaway and is situated on the Long Beach waterfront lined with palm trees, creating a scenic track.
