Canadian Grand Prix
The Canadian Formula One race was the fifth round of the 2026 season and utilised the sprint format. The Grand Prix has been a staple on the Formula 1 calendar since its introduction in 1967, moving to its current Montreal home in 1978. The circuit is thought to be among the toughest on brakes and is known for the "Wall of Champions" where multiple world champions have crashed. Dramatic races and unpredictable weather characterise the event. The circuit was built using mostly existing roads around one of the islands developed for the Expo 67 World's Fair. After the death of Gilles Villeneuve in 1982, the track was renamed in his honour, originally having been called Circuit Île Notre-Dame. The course features several chicanes and presents a demanding challenge to both vehicle setup and driver skill.
