Goodwood Festival of Speed
Founded in 1993 by Charles Gordon-Lennox, the 11th Duke of Richmond, the Goodwood Festival of Speed was created to celebrate motorsport's glorious past while showcasing the latest automotive technology. The annual event takes place on the grounds of Goodwood House in West Sussex and features a 1,890-metre hillclimb with nine turns that climbs 92.7 metres at an average gradient of 4.9%. As a classified hillclimb in a historic setting, the event offers unprecedented spectator proximity to the track and drivers - creating a participatory atmosphere unlike most top-level motorsport events. The festival is scheduled to avoid Formula One conflicts, enabling fans to witness both contemporary F1 machinery and historic racing vehicles. What began in 1993 as a simple hill climb has evolved into one of the world's greatest celebrations of car culture.
