Isle of Man TT: Week
Since its foundation in 1907, the Isle of Man TT benefits from the island's status as a Crown dependency with its own legal authority, which allowed motorcycle racing at a time when such events were prohibited on mainland Britain. The race takes place on the Snaefell Mountain Course, a roughly 61-kilometer route established since 1911 that leads from the coast through Douglas into the island's mountainous interior. The Isle of Man TT remains the last race of its kind - held on public roads without run-off areas, bordered by stone walls, curbs and houses. A distinctive feature preserved since the beginning is the time-trial format rather than a mass start, where victory goes to the rider with the highest average speed, not the first across the finish line.
