Red Bull Ring
The ADAC Racing Weekend visits the Red Bull Ring for the first time as an international event and concludes the first half of the season. The legendary Österreichring opened in 1969 and hosted the Formula One World Championship for 18 consecutive years from 1970 to 1987. Following safety concerns, the track was completely rebuilt by Hermann Tilke in the mid-1990s, its length shortened from 5.942 to 4.326 kilometres and fast corners replaced by three tight right-handers to create overtaking opportunities. Red Bull entrepreneur Dietrich Mateschitz purchased the derelict circuit in 2008, initiating a multi-million euro reconstruction and the track reopened as Red Bull Ring in 2011.
