Silverstone's first motorcycle Grand Prix was held in 1977, and has been the playground of champions ever since. The legendary British circuit stands out as the longest track of the calendar with its long straights requiring a lot of hard braking. The Silverstone Circuit is a permanent racing track located in Silverstone, Great Britain, built on the site of a former Royal Air Force airfield that was first used for motorsport in 1948. The circuit is characterized by a relatively flat surface and high-speed corners such as Maggotts-Becketts-Chapel, where drivers experience lateral forces exceeding five G. Silverstone hosted the first official Formula 1 World Championship race in 1950 and remains one of the most renowned venues in motorsport. The changeable British weather with frequent rainfall and fog led to the relocation of the British Grand Prix from April to July starting in 2000.
