The British race is the oldest in the Formula One World Championship calendar as the 1950 race at Silverstone was round one of the first championship season. The circuit is based on a military airfield used by the RAF during World War II; after the war, airfields were repurposed for motorsport events due to their enormous width and run-off zones. The current layout spanning 5.891 kilometres has been used since 2010. Silverstone is famous for its fast corners and massive lateral loads on tyres, with vehicles reaching over 290 km/h through corners like Copse and Maggotts. The Grand Prix of Great Britain is the best-attended weekend of the entire Formula 1 season.

The Silverstone Circuit is a permanent racing track located in Silverstone, Great Britain, built on the site of a former Royal Air Force airfield that was first used for motorsport in 1948. The circuit is characterized by a relatively flat surface and high-speed corners such as Maggotts-Becketts-Chapel, where drivers experience lateral forces exceeding five G. Silverstone hosted the first official Formula 1 World Championship race in 1950 and remains one of the most renowned venues in motorsport. The changeable British weather with frequent rainfall and fog led to the relocation of the British Grand Prix from April to July starting in 2000.
